Workers across the South are coming into Durham to celebrate May Day, International Workers Day, with a massive worker-led action to take back our community and demand:
Stop the Exploitation! Stop the Union Busting! Stop the Gentrification!
The cost of gas, food and housing have dramatically increased, resulting in real wage cuts for workers. Workers find it increasingly impossible to afford rent in Durham with skyrocketing housing costs, driven to maximize developers profits. We have always been essential workers, but the global pandemic highlighted our critical role in society, yet we still don't get the respect we deserve with dignified wages and safety. We demand collective bargaining rights for all workers!
The conditions the workers face today, made a hundredfold worse by the COVID-19 pandemic, have created a situation where workers across industries are fed up and looking to organize. Amazon, Starbucks, fast food, healthcare and many other workers across the country have tapped into this energy and are fighting for a union. We celebrate the recent union victories at Duke Press and Piedmont Health here in the triangle!
Workers across the South continue to build local Workers Assemblies to flex their power. Join us as we march together!
